“Yandex ML School” launched in partnership between New Uzbekistan University and Yandex

The official opening ceremony of one of the most significant projects in the field of artificial intelligence — “Yandex ML School” — took place at New Uzbekistan University in collaboration with Yandex. This initiative marks a new stage in Uzbekistan’s digital transformation, bringing fresh momentum and new opportunities to the field.

The project continues the legacy of Yandex’s renowned School of Data Analysis in Moscow, established in 2007. Over the years, the school has trained thousands of professionals around the world in machine learning, data analysis, and artificial intelligence.

Through Yandex ML School, young people in Uzbekistan will have access to world-class, modern education. The program will be jointly taught by experts from Yandex Uzbekistan and New Uzbekistan University.

Interest in the program has been exceptionally high — more than 3,000 applications were submitted. Following a two-stage selection process, the 31 most talented students were chosen. Over the course of one year, they will acquire advanced knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to play a key role in developing Uzbekistan’s digital economy.

During the event, another major collaboration was also presented — the Day of AI Uzbekistan project, implemented jointly with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT RAISE). The project’s main goal is to teach school teachers across the country the fundamentals of artificial intelligence.

All materials for the project have been adapted into Uzbek and are being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. As a result, 1,400 teachers will gain knowledge and practical skills in effectively applying AI technologies.

These initiatives are not only part of Uzbekistan’s innovative reforms in education but also represent an important step toward building a national artificial intelligence ecosystem.
