The Greater Eurasia Research Center (GEAR) is a progressive institution established by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The center is dedicated to studying the diverse and changing dynamics of the Eurasian region. GEAR is committed to interdisciplinary research and academic excellence by exploring historical, contemporary, and future aspects of the economic, social, technological, and political landscapes of Eurasia.

GEAR's mission is to be a leader in identifying and addressing the unique challenges and opportunities of the Eurasian region, creating breakthrough research, and promoting collaboration among scientists, policymakers, industry experts, and the public.

The main goal of GEAR is to contribute to the development of society and economy in Eurasia, Central Asia and Uzbekistan. This reflects GEAR's commitment to providing a leading contribution to the study of Eurasia, promoting a deeper understanding of the region through a combination of innovative research, influential policy work, and comprehensive educational efforts.

GEAR collaborates with the Stone Center in Chicago, the CAREC Institute, ADB, HKUST and academic institutions in Central Asia, the US and Europe. Engage with organizations such as the EBRD, World Bank, UN, IMF, CAREC, E&Y and others to find financing opportunities.

GEAR pilot activities and research projects:

• The Eurasian Research Mentoring Program (ERMP) supports economic research by graduate students and junior scholars.

• Conducted a summer school program on socioeconomic inequality in Tashkent in collaboration with the Stone Center at the Chicago Harris School and HKUST.

• Launch of the GEAR Distinguished Lecture Series.

• In partnership with the Saxon Academy of Humanities, organization of the Xth Conference on the Fundamentals of Diffusion.
