Where to apply

Nearest Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate, based on NewUU's official invitation letter. The A-1 Student entry visa is issued by diplomatic missions rather than the e-visa portal, since e-visas cover short-stay tourist and business visits only.

The A-1 Student entry visa is typically issued for up to one year. Per the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular fee schedule, a single-entry visa valid up to 1 year costs $160 (multiple-entry up to 1 year: $250); the rate increases by $10 for each additional entry. For students from CIS countries, Kazakhstan and Russia

Uzbekistan grants visa-free entry to citizens of several CIS countries, including Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, under bilateral agreements. Kyrgyzstan citizens can enter visa-free for up to 60 days, and Tajikistan citizens for up to 30 days.

This means students from these countries can typically enter Uzbekistan on their national passport alone, without applying for a visa in advance. However, visa-free entry is designed for short stays, not necessarily for a full academic year, so CIS, Kazakhstani, and Russian students should still:

  • Contact international@newuu.uz before travel to confirm whether an A-1 Student entry visa or local registration is required for the full length of their program.
  • Complete local registration with the authorities within 3 days of arrival, the same as all other international students (see Registration After Arrival below).
  • Carry their original NewUU admission letter and passport when travelling, even where a visa is not required for entry.

Exact visa-free durations are set by bilateral agreement and can change; confirm the current rule for your nationality with the Uzbekistan Embassy/Consulate or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travel.

3 Receive your visa

Once approved, students can collect their visa and finalize travel arrangements.

All international students must register their address with local authorities within 3 days of arrival in Uzbekistan. NewUU's International Office assists all incoming students with this registration as part of the arrival process, please bring your passport and visa to your orientation appointment so this can be completed on your behalf.
