New Uzbekistan University (NewUU) continues to strengthen its role as a flagship institution in the country’s higher education landscape with two groundbreaking initiatives.

First, NewUU will launch a “School for Rectors” — a specialized program designed to prepare candidates for rector and vice-rector positions. Participants will receive advanced leadership training, strategic management skills, and exposure to global best practices in university governance. The top-performing candidates will be awarded an exceptional opportunity to undergo advanced training at Harvard University.

This initiative comes alongside a major shift in university governance. Rectors across the nation will be granted greater independence in decision-making. All higher education institutions will receive organizational and academic autonomy, enabling rectors to:
• Appoint their own vice-rectors without ministerial approval
• Present and defend their annual development programs before their university council
• Independently assign professors, lecturers, and administrative staff within their budget and staffing limits
• Set differentiated tuition fees for “super” contracts

In another landmark move, NewUU’s grading system — recognized for its transparency, fairness, and academic rigor — will now be introduced in all higher education institutions across Uzbekistan. This will help standardize academic assessment, raise education quality, and better prepare students for international competitiveness.

Through these bold reforms, NewUU is not only shaping future university leaders but also elevating the quality of higher education nationwide, reinforcing its position as a model of innovation and excellence in academia.
