The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has reviewed a presentation on upcoming reforms in the education system, with a strong emphasis on advancing engineering education.

According to the new initiative, specialized engineering schools will be established in all 14 regions of Uzbekistan under the Agency for Specialized Educational Institutions. Admission to these schools will be conducted through competitive entrance examinations, and students will receive full state-funded education.

Importantly, the engineering education program will be modeled after the successful experience of New Uzbekistan University and the Mirzo Ulugbek Specialized School. The program will be implemented over five years following the international STEM education model, ensuring students gain strong foundations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Rector’s School at NewUU

As part of the reforms, a Rector’s School will be established at New Uzbekistan University, designed to enhance leadership and management capacity in higher education. The program will provide advanced training for rectors and vice-rectors of universities across the country.

The most talented 30 rectors will also be given the opportunity to participate in an international internship at Harvard University, where they will gain first-hand experience in global best practices of university management.

These steps reflect Uzbekistan’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of engineers and academic leaders, with New Uzbekistan University continuing to play a central role in shaping the future of the nation’s education system.
